Tigo Panama pledges US$100 million for 4G, fibre expansion

Tigo Panama pledged to invest US$100 million into its network this year as part of its long-term modernisation and expansion strategy, to plug in coverage gaps and ready itself for 5G.

In a statement, Tigo General Manager Marcelo Benitez said the operator’s mission is to continue developing the "digital highways that close the digital divide and contribute to the inclusive technological transformation" of Panama.

From its investment this year, Tigo aims to expand its LTE network to new locations, namely: San Miguel del Yuco, Nuevo Caimitillo (East Panama), Nuevo Paraíso, Valle Riscó, Deborah (Bocas del Toro), Guayaquil (Veraguas), San Francisco de Bugaba, Blanco Arriba Communities (Chiriquí) and other new regional areas.

Currently, the Tigo LTE network covers 95% of the population according to the executive director of networks Víctor Inchausti, and the core part of the network is ready for the implementation of 5G.

Additionally, the company will expand its fibre optic network to 90,000 homes in Puerto Armuelles, Colon City, Panama City, ​​Penonome, Azuero and San Miguelito.
