Claro connects rural towns of Guaviare and Nariño to 4G

Claro reported that it connected six new rural locations in Guaviare and five in Nariño to 4G coverage. With this, the company continues to connect thousands of inhabitants in all corners of the country, especially the most remote and rural areas of Colombia and, with Claro for Colombia, its sustainability strategy, it continues to transform the lives of Colombians with technology.

In Guaviare are the towns of Resbalón, Tienda Nueva, El Morro, La Siberia, Barranco Ceiba Arawato and the Superior Community Council of Black Afro-Colombian Communities Cuenca Alta, all belonging to the municipality of San José de Guaviare, benefiting nearly 500 residents, who, for the first time, are accessing high-speed mobile internet. In Nariño, on the other hand, they are Dos Quebradas, Retoño and Santa Maria Rosario, which belong to the municipality of Tumaco; Santa Rosa, to Belén, and Zapote, to Barbacoas, positively impacting nearly 4,500 inhabitants.

Likewise, in the coming years, Claro will be connecting another 31 towns in Guaviare to this technology, reaching an additional 2,500 inhabitants in this department, and 23 more in Nariño, benefiting nearly 21,000 Nariño residents.

In the same way, Claro already has 4G coverage in the municipalities of El Calamar, El Retorno and San Jose de Guaviare, in Guaviare, and in 100% of the municipal capitals belonging to Nariño, 62 in total, which allows its inhabitants have greater capacity and speed to connect from their mobile phones, access trade networks, learn online and be closer to family and friends.

“Regardless of whether there are many or few people, we are reaching every corner of the country with connectivity. With 4G mobile Internet, the people of Guaviar and Nariño from these towns can access new and better digital opportunities for online training, employability, entrepreneurship, commerce, health and entertainment from their mobile phones”, declared Néstor Bergero, director of Technology at Claro Colombia.

Recently, and with the aim of connecting the country's educational communities to more and better opportunities, the company, with its Connected Schools initiative, brought free internet to the technology rooms of the educational institutions (IE) IE José Celestino Mutis, Rural Development Concentration and IE Manuela Beltrán, located in San José del Guaviare, benefiting more than 4,730 students from Guaviare. And in Nariño, to the IE Colegio Nuestra Señora de las Lajas, IE IEM Liceo Central de Nariño, IE IEM Artemio Mendoza Carvajal and IE Liceo Santa Teresita, located in Pasto, and IE Sucre and IE Alfonso López, in Ipiales, benefiting more than 6,640 students.
