Satellite firm OneWeb has partnered with Greenland's biggest telco Tusass in an agreement that will see the company provide the island with connectivity.
OneWeb confirmed the partnership in a video on YouTube, detailing that it plans to provide connectivity to the country's hard-to-reach areas with its satellites.
Greenland is the world's biggest island, with the country spread out across more than two million square feet, and so there are many issues with providing connectivity to the whole country's 56,000 population.
In the video, Tusass wholesale manager Allan Lynge details the issues the operator has, noting the issues around weather, long distances, and small settlements with not that many people.
He adds that OneWeb's satellites will enable the telco to serve even the most remote parts of the country.
OneWeb is claiming that with its expansive portfolio of satellites, which is currently at 648, the company will be able to provide connectivity to people in Greenland, with download speeds of to 195Mbps and upload speeds of up to 32Mbps.
The company is currently in the process of merging with French satellite operator Eutelsat, which will see Eutelsat merge its 36-strong fleet of GEO satellites with OneWeb’s constellation of 648 low Earth orbit satellites.
More recently, OneWeb signed distribution deals with Airtel and Azyan Telecom to roll out its connectivity services in Oman and across Africa.
