Poland urged to resume 3.5GHz licensing process

The Digital Poland Association has called on the country’s government to license 3.5GHz C-band spectrum for 5G use as soon as possible...

TeleGeography reports that Poland’s planned licensing process for 3.5GHz spectrum was derailed by the pandemic, and has failed to regain momentum while the government amends the Act on the National Cybersecurity System (KSC).

Poland and the Netherlands are the only EU countries that have not yet licensed the 3.5GHz band, with operators providing 5G services over 2100MHz and 2600MHz spectrum previously used for 3G and 4G networks.

Cyfrowa Polska president Michal Kanownik said it was “necessary and urgent” to license 5G spectrum given that Poland’s mobile networks are handling additional traffic as the country is hosting refugees from Ukraine.

“In the long term, the new generation network will be a factor supporting further GDP growth and increasing the competitiveness of the Polish economy against the background of the European Union countries”, said Kanownik.
