Beacons Telecom expands FTTP broadband rollout in Wales

Rural broadband ISP Beacons Telecom, which in 2020 began to build their own 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across parts of Powys and Monmouthshire in Wales has revealed the next locations to benefit from their rollout and say they’re on track to deliver 15,000 premises by the end of 2022.

Beacons Telecom, which is funded by a mix of private investment and public funding via the UK and Welsh Government’s associated gigabit voucher schemes, was busy working to deploy their network across a total of 13 towns and villages including: Govilon, Gilwern, Crickhowell, Coed-y-Paen, Glascoed, Bwlch, Llangynidr, Clydach, Glangrwyney, Maesygwartha, Pentre’rfelin, Pentrebach and Llandeilo’r Fan.

At the time they’d already managed to cover almost 7,000 premises with their GPON based network infrastructure and had set a target to reach 15,000 by the end of this year. Progress since then has been good and a number of new locations have been added to their network coverage over the past year.

On top of that they’ve also continued to expand their coverage in existing locations, such as across the communities of Gilwern, Govilon, Llangynidr, Crickhowell and Coedypaen.

“Installing the cabinet is a real milestone for Erwood. Ultrafast full fibre broadband is a project that’s led by our community, for our community. Beacons Telecom understood this from the outset, and have been great partners for us. We are excited to start getting our homes and businesses connected!,” said Caroline Baldwin, Community Councillor for Erwood, to ISPreview.co.uk.

Customers of the service tend to pay from just £17.99 per month for a 160Mbps (50Mbps upload) package with a 50GB usage allowance (£24.99 for unlimited usage) on a 12-month contract term, which rises to £39.99 for an unlimited 1000Mbps (300Mbps upload) service. Symmetric speed packages are also available to businesses, if they so desire.
