More than 900,000 homes and businesses across Ireland have now been passed by eir’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, as the telco accelerates its rollout pace to 250,000 annual premises under its deal with InfraVia inked early this year.
The news comes just over five months after eir’s previous announcement of reaching 800,000 premises in late April. eir – which is targeting an FTTH footprint of around 85% of homes and businesses by end-2026 – said in a press release that its high speed broadband deployment programme will make Ireland one of the most fibre connected countries in the world as it aims to cover around 1.9 million premises in total. Over 40 operators currently provide services on its network via wholesale division open eir.
