Tele2 ready for 5G rollout in Lithuania

Tele2 Lithuania, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscriptions, has revealed that it is ready to start of deployment of its 5G network, after being awarded spectrum in the 3.5GHz band by the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) earlier this month. Tele2 paid EUR3 million (USD2.9 million) for a block of 100MHz spectrum in the 3400MHz-3500MHz range. Commenting on the development, CEO of Tele2 for the Baltic States, Petras Masiulis, said: ‘We have completed all preparations. The first 5G stations in the Tele2 network will start operating as soon as we receive the RRT’s permission to use the frequencies. First of all, residents of big cities will be able to test the 5G connection, and we will continue to strive to offer our customers the best quality-price ratio.’ He added that the spectrum allocation will provide customers with a 5G connection in densely populated areas, while the allocation of 700MHz frequencies – an auction of which is ongoing – will ensure wider coverage across the country’s territory.

Tele2 is installing 5G network equipment, including the core and RAN, in all Baltic countries in partnership with Finnish equipment vendor Nokia.
