SK Telecom will offer a new 5G plan with enhanced customer options and benefits, the company announced recently..
The telecom company will introduce a 5G rate system with payment plans offered in increments of 10,000 won ($7), and also plans to begin a data plan that includes online-only benefits.
The new 5G data plan subdivided according to customer usage patterns will be available from Aug. 5. The new plan will come in five options; three 5G general plans priced at 40,000, 50,000 and 90,000 won, and two online-only benefit plans. Including the new plans, SK Telecom will offer 16 5G rate plans in total.
SK Telecom said that it divided the 5G general plans at such price intervals to cater to more customers’ needs.
For the plans only offered through their website, SK Telecom said that it expects young customers and single-person households to be able to get the most out of the plans, as these demographics are accustomed to changing subscriptions online and will be able to find more affordable offers.
SK Telecom’s announcement comes after the Korean government urged mobile carriers to come up with more options for 5G subscriptions earlier in the month. Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jung-ho encouraged companies make more options during a meeting with the CEOs of KT, SK Telecom and LG U+ in July 11, saying “We now have to make an active effort to come up with 5G subscription plans that meet consumers' demands.”
“We focused on introducing a variety of 5G plans to meet the needs of customers considering customers’ usage patterns,” said Kim Ji-hyeong, head of SK Telecom’s integrated marketing strategy team. “We will continue to introduce various services that can satisfy our customers and contribute to customer convenience.”
