SaskTel is investing around US$10-million to install Samsung Radio Access Network equipment, which the Crown Corporation says will significantly improve the 4G LTE data capacity of its wireless network serving 30 rural communities. The work to upgrade the towers has begun, and it’s expected the will be complete by the end of March of next year.
The work will increase data capacity in each community by over 100 per cent. It means being able to fully utilize their smartphones without being slowed by network congestion. SaskTel says the work also lays the foundation for the deployment of 5G in the future.
