Faster internet is on its way with Egypt's next satellite launch

Prepare for takeoff in three… two… one…! The Egyptian government is drawing up plans to send a satellite into outer space to replace ‘Nilesat 201’, which will expire in 2028. Taking its place will be the all-new ‘Nilesat 301’, which will rain down upon us with more channels and better internet after its launch on June 7th or June 8th.

The satellite has been officially moved from its manufacturing location at Thales Group’s headquarters in France, following the end of its manufacture and testing trials, all of which took two and a half years to complete. The launch was actually scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2022, but its launching date was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic slowing things down.

The ‘Nilesat 301’ will include 38 channels compared to the 26 channels on ‘Nilesat 201’, and will cover countries from South Africa to the Nile Basin to ensure better communication for citizens across the continent, as well as, most importantly, improve broadband internet services in Egypt.
