The Nicaraguan Institute for Telecommunications and Posts (Instituto Nicaraguense de Telecomunicaciones y Correos, Telcor) has revealed plans to free up spectrum in the 894MHz-960MHz band for mobile broadband use.
In a press release issued this month, the watchdog confirms that work is already underway to vacate the airwaves, which are currently being used by FM radio operators. Telcor notes that the decision was rubber-stamped by Administrative Agreement No. 005-2021, which was published in Official Gazette Number 233 on 1 December 2021. FM broadcasters were given twelve months to comply with the decision, suggesting the process will conclude before end-November 2022.
