Globe Telecoms announced on that it is targeting about 1,700 new cell sites before yearend, for a wider reach, better communication and faster internet connections.
In a statement, Globe said it is aiming to beat last year's construction of 1,407.
"These metrics truly speak to the intensive investments that we've made to improve customer experience on our network as we believe that consistency is the most important experience metric because it's not just speed that matters to the customers but also consistency. Depending on the activity, there is a recommended performance threshold wherein beyond that, it is already imperceptible to the customer," Joel Agustin, SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering, Globe Network Technical Group said.
Globe said that during the first three months of 2022, they have been busy building 234 cell sites nationwide, upgraded 2,344 mobile sites to 4G, and installed 380 5G sites.
Agustin said the aggressive rollout was enabled by Globe's capital expenditures of P21 billion for the quarter, representing 24 percent of its P89 billion full-year Capex guidance.
About 82 percent of the amount was for data-related requirements.
Globe, recognized by global analytics firms Ookla and Opensignal as the most consistent mobile operator in the Philippines for the first quarter of 2022, said it is aiming to achieve #1stWorldNetwork.
Opensignal recognized Globe for delivering the most consistent mobile quality in its April 2022 Mobile Network Experience report for the Philippines.
Globe, the statement said, topped the list for both Core Consistent Quality and Excellent Consistent Quality.
