More than half of Spanish households with internet access (55.1%) used platforms such as Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime at the end of last year.
This, according to the findings of the latest Household Panel undertaken by the regulator CNMC, was 11% more than a year earlier.
The research also found that during weekends and holidays the youngest viewers (aged 10-24) spent an average of two hours a day on video sharing platforms and another two hours on VOD platforms.
In contrast, viewers aged 65 and above spent close to four hours a day watching FTA/DTT services.
News was mostly followed on the latter services, while gaming videos were mostly watched on video sharing platforms such as YouTube.
