Altice Portugal (MEO) has revealed that it now has access to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks that pass more than six million homes. The fibre infrastructure passed 6.1 million homes as of 31 March 2022, up from 5.7 million one year earlier. Of this footprint, 5.4 million homes are passed by networks owned by JV FastFiber (see below), while the other 700,000 homes are believed to be passed by infrastructure owned by wholesale player Fibroglobal.
Incorporated in April 2020, FastFiber resulted from a partnership between PT Portugal (50.01%), which is part of Altice Portugal, and MDN Senior Holding (49.99%), part of NHIP III, which is managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP). The transaction closed in December 2019, with MSIP paying an initial EUR1.57 billion (USD1.71 billion) for its stake. The company’s assets comprise all of the fibre networks that previously belonged to Altice Portugal.
