Bulgarian telecoms operator Vivacom now offers 5G in over 530 cities and resorts, with plans to extend the coverage to 72% of the population and a ‘large part of the country’s major roads’ by the end of the year.
Vivacom activated its 5G service in central urban areas of all 27 district capitals and along the Trakia highway in September 2020; Vivacom’s network refarmed the cellco’s existing frequencies in the 1800MHz and 2100MHz via dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). In April 2021 Vivacom participated in the regulator’s auction for 5G spectrum, agreeing to pay BGN4.6 million (USD2.45 million) for its 100MHz block (3700MHz-3800MHz). The operator commenced the deployment of new antennas, which support 5G services in the 3.5GHz band, in April 2021.
