Orange España has struck a deal with Rakuten TV to offer a selection of the latter’s content in a dedicated section of its Orange TV service, to be branded as Videoclub by Rakuten TV.
The new section would include titles that Rakuten TV makes available as part of its transactional video-on-demand offering.
Videoclub by Rakuten TV will enable Orange TV customers to have access to about 6,000 titles, including blockbuster movies shortly after their theatrical release.
For Rakuten TV, the partnership represents a first step in a strategy of collaboration with telecom operators, making a range of content including FAST/AVOD as well as TVOD available to telecom TV customers.
“All of this builds Orange TV into one of the most varied and extensive content aggregation platforms in the Spanish audiovisual market, with options and genres for the entire public thanks to the agreements that have been struck with the main video providers, both national and international, to add their content to our offering,” said Ignacio García-Legaz, head of TV at Orange.
“We are delighted to work with Orange as a company committed to propose a high-quality entertainment offering to its customers, just as Rakuten TV does. This agreement is an important marker in our strategy, where we plan to collaborate with telecom companies all across Europe and present to our users entertainment that is also accessible via their preferred operators,” said Jorge del Puerto, European head of partnerships and distribution at Rakuten TV.
