Airtel, Telkom users can now use Lipa na M-Pesa service

Telkom Kenya and Airtel users will now be able to use Lipa na M-Pesa to pay for goods and services.

This came after a Friday launch of the seamless money transfer through merchants attached to different operators.

It was enabled by Merchant Interoperability in their objective to enable customers from the mobile money services, T-Kash, Airtel Money and M-Pesa to make direct mobile payments to any business till number.

The plan is aimed at boosting the easy adoption and convenience of cashless payments.

It is the first in motion in the Central Bank of Kenya Payment Vision Strategy 2022-2025 projects.

CBK launched the National Payments Strategy in February to help create trust, security, usefulness, choice and innovation across transactions.

The Managing Director of Airtel PD Sarma lauded the CBK for their role in championing collaborations in payment.

"They have made Kenya a trailblazer in digital payments in the world," he added.

The CEO of Telkom Kenya, Mugo Kibati added that enhancing the seamless mobile transaction broadens the consumers' choice.

“The introduction of merchant interoperability brings us closer to realizing a cashless economy, further enhancing a seamless digital transactions ecosystem that gives the consumer more choice,” he said.
