The Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) will set up 800 computer laboratories and provide 1,500 internet connections to rural schools as part of the government's efforts to ensure easy access to ICT, the Herald reported. Potraz director-general Gift Machengete told Parliament's portfolio committee on ICT that the provision of ICT devices will also boost government efforts to bridge the urban rural divide while cushioning communities that have been suffering due to the effects of Covid-19.
Machengete said a total of 4,902 computers have been disbursed to 465 schools and that the regulator has also given out printers, projectors and servers to the schools.
