96% of settlements in Kyrgyzstan have 4G coverage

Kyrgyzstan’s State Communications Agency (SCA) says in its annual report for 2021 that a total of 2,049 settlements across the country are covered by 4G LTE mobile networks, or 96% of the Republic’s 2,130 officially registered cities, towns and villages. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that the 4G settlement coverage figure rose from 81.9% reported by the SCA at end-2020, with 1,733 of 2,116 registered settlements at that date receiving LTE services. The three nationwide Kyrgyz cellcos MegaCom, Sky Mobile (Beeline) and Nur Telecom (O!) all provide 4G LTE utilising multiple frequency bands, and GlobalComms adds that the trio collectively made LTE available in all main cities and towns by 2017, while in early 2019 the telecoms authorities reported that LTE had reached ‘all cities, towns and municipal centres’, with subsequent expansions focused on small and remote villages.

The SCA’s 2021 annual report also disclosed that 2G mobile network technology reached 2,088 (98%) of all registered settlements while 3G networks served 2,081 (97%). Of the 42 remaining settlements (1.9%) not covered by any mobile network, the SCA – operating under the Ministry of Digital Development – noted that 28 are included in the schedule of cellular expansion for 2022, while 14 lack requisite power transmission lines.
