WINDTRE begins phasing out ADSL

WINDTRE has become the first major Italian fixed broadband provider to abandon ADSL technology for new customers.

Previously, the telco offered ADSL alongside fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), fibre-to-the cabinet (FTTC) and fixed wireless access (FWA), with the slower ADSL technology only marketed in areas outside the FTTH or FTTC network footprint. SOStariffe now reports that new customers not covered by either FTTH or FTTC will have to utilise FWA. Existing ADSL subscriptions will be unaffected, though users will be offered an upgrade to fibre or FWA when they become available in their area.
