Deutsche Glasfaser to expand FTTH footprint in Rhineland-Palatinate

Deutsche Glasfaser has announced plans to connect around 700,000 households in Rhineland-Palatinate to fibre-optic infrastructure by the end of 2030.

The expansion is being carried out in cooperation with the federal government in Mainz and follows the signing of similar agreements with Bavaria, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt and Hesse. Deutsche Glasfaser currently supplies more than 30,000 households in Rhineland-Palatinate with direct fibre-optic connections, while a further 120,000 homes will be added by the end of 2023 with a view to reaching a target of 700,000 by 2030.

Ultimately, the firm plans to invest EUR7 billion (USD7.7 billion) to expand its fibre footprint in Germany to four million homes by the end of 2025, rising to six million in the medium term.
