In Qatar, the data recorded 2.93 million internet users in January 2022, while the internet penetration rate stood at 99.0 percent of the total population at the start of the year.
Qatar also ranked fourth in mobile internet connection speed, with Median internet connection at 97.90, recording a 7.9 percent increase year-on-year.
The UAE, Norway, and South Korea were the top three in this category, while China, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Kuwait completed the top 10.
Meanwhile, around 2.95 million social media users were reported in Qatar, increasing 80,000 compared to 2021. Facebook remains the most widely used interactive social media platform with 2.10 million users. On the other hand, YouTube recorded 2.65 million users, TikTok is at 1.20 million, and Instagram is at 1.54 million.
According to Alexa Internet, Google, YouTube, Facebook, Office, FIFA were the top five most visited websites based on total monthly website traffic, the Hootsuite report said. The Peninsula newspaper was the 15th most visited and the only print media in the top 20.
Qatar was the most searched entry on Google searches, followed by translate, google, YouTube and Whatsapp. Other top searches include prayer time, Qatar Airways, MoI, and IPL.
Also, Speedtest Global Index ranks the 5G performance in Qatar as ‘extremely competitive’ with Vodafone overtaking Ooredoo for the fastest median 5G download speed during Q4 2021 at 421.42 Mbps to Ooredoo’s 390.59 Mbps.
Hootsuite also reported that Mobile according to data from GSMA Intelligence, there were 4.48 million cellular mobile connections in Qatar at the start of 2022. Hootsuite also reported that 4.62 billion people use social media worldwide, rising by 10.1 percent as 2021 global social media advertising spend reaches $154bn. Besides, nearly an entire third (33.1%) of the total global digital ad spend came from social media.
