TIM Brasil made the first 5G VoNR call in Latin America

Brazilian telecommunications company TIM Brasil announced the performance of the first tests with 5G VoNR (Voice over New Radio) technology in Latin America, said a report in Teletime.

Conducted in partnership with Huawei, the demonstration is a preview of a service that should be available to telecom customers later this year, following the implementation of the 5G network. The solution promises to improve call quality and integration with apps that use data and voice simultaneously, the company said.

TeleSintese quotes Marco Di Costanzo, Network Director at TIM Brasil, as saying: "We want to offer a complete, end-to-end experience, with the best and most advanced 5G network in the country."

Voice over 5G is mandatory for Standalone networks, which will use a 3.5 GHz spectrum. Today, TIM already offers the VoLTE service on the 4G network to more than 4,600 locations throughout Brazil. With it, it serves more than 30 million customers.

Compared to the previous generation, VoNR allows the use of video conferences, Virtual and Augmented Reality applications.

According to local media reports, tests with VoNR are part of a series of TIM initiatives to implement 5G. In the last three years, the operator has carried out tests with partners such as educational institutions, research centers, and companies. In them, it even reached the highest transmission speeds ever recorded in the country, the reports claimed.

VoNR will be critical for operators to migrate from legacy 2G and 3G networks and thereby help accelerate spectrum reuse. Hence, it also highlights that it is necessary to continue promoting the ecosystem of devices with the capacity to support autonomous networks.
