T-Mobile, O2 switch off Czech 3G networks

Czech mobile operators T-Mobile and O2 switched of their respective 3G networks on 30 November, in line with previously disclosed deactivation timelines. O2 started its 3G shutdown process in Prague on 31 May this year. Zlin and Olomouc were disconnected on 31 August with switch-offs occurring in all other regions last month. For its part, T-Mobile’s 3G gear was phased out during the months of October and November. Both cellcos’ 2G networks remain operational.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, fellow Czech mobile operator Vodafone switched off its own 3G network on 31 March 2021.

(Note: T-Mobile and O2 signed a 3G network sharing agreement back in February 2011. As per the original terms of the deal, the shared infrastructure comprised around 1,000 cell sites.)
