Andorra Telecom has introduced gigabit fixed broadband speeds for residential customers, having previously restricted the rate to business users only.
The operator now offers a plan with symmetrical download/upload speeds of 1Gbps for EUR42 (USD47.6) per month, alongside its existing 300Mbps and 700Mbps tariffs. Carles Casadevall, a spokesperson for the state-owned monopoly provider, was quoted as saying that the launch was prompted by growing demand for high speed services: ‘In recent months, due to the growing number of people doing teleworking, homes have become small offices. This situation, coupled with teleschooling and the continued growth of connected devices that stream content or play online, has increased the need for high bandwidth in your home internet connection.’
