XL extends 4G coverage in Nepal

Indonesian mobile network operator (MNO) XL Axiata has revealed that under its ongoing 4G LTE network rollout programme it has now switched on its signal in most of the sub-districts in West Kalimantan province. Under the government-led initiative to accelerate and develop telecommunications and data network infrastructure throughout Indonesia, this year XL has built more than 260 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) in remote rural areas that were previously ‘unreachable’. Today, the MNO’s 4G network spans three-quarters of the existing sub-districts or 129 sub-districts, serving a total of 901 wards/villages, with more than 418,000 subscribers. To support services throughout the province of West Kalimantan, XL Axiata operates more than 1,000 4G BTS.

‘Data traffic throughout West Kalimantan has increased by 215% in the last two years. Therefore, we must continue to build a 4G network, both to improve the quality of service, as well as to expand to areas that are new and have great potential. Along with network development, we also continue to fiberise the network to increase capacity, so that customer convenience will also increase,’ IndoTelko quotes Region Group Head XL Axiata Jabodetabek and Kalimantan, Sofia Purbayanti, as saying.
