Maltese cableco and mobile operator Melita has increased the data transfer rates of its fibre-based broadband plans, with maximum download speeds of 1.2Gbps now available to around 50% of households, although Melita plans to roll out the faster speeds across Malta and Gozo. Data transfer rates for its ‘Flexi Bundle’ plans have been increased to range from 300Mbps/30Mbps (downlink/uplink) to 1.2Gbps/100Mbps. Meanwhile, the upload speed for Melita’s 1Gbps broadband plan was increased to 60Mbps.
Mireille Muscat, Head of Marketing at Melita, was quoted as saying of the upgrade: ‘We are always looking at ways to improve our services for our customers. As the importance of the internet for both work and play increases rapidly, and demand for bandwidth grows, our continued investment in our nationwide fibre powered network will continue to offer some of the fastest, and best value internet speeds available in Europe.’
