The General Administration of Customs has announced the launch of the first phase of the tracking service for express mail consignments, part of its efforts toward digital transformation, which is considered the work charter and road map for the future plans of the customs authorities, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The Director-General of Customs, Counselor Jamal Al-Jalawi, said in a statement this service comes in light of the digital age that is growing at an accelerating pace.
He indicated the administration continues to update its plans from time to time to include comprehensive technological solutions to radically change the way the customs work.
He stated many technical services and automated linking channels and their customs updates were launched as a basic basis to achieve an integrated digital framework so that processing operations would be 100 percent electronic through the customs system platform.
In line with the government’s plan to convert areas along Jaber Bridge into investment facilities, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has agreed to add a number of commercial activities like floating restaurants similar to those in Venice, Italy; as well as seaside restaurants, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The decision necessitates the issuance of new commercial licenses for the above mentioned restaurants, provided that the process of issuing licenses is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Interior (Coast Guard) and the Ministry of Finance.
