UnionPay International (UPI) partners with BOC SmartPay to enable QR code payments in Sri Lanka

UnionPay International (UPI) is the first international card scheme to partner with BOC SmartPay to enable QR code payments in Sri Lanka.

Tourists, who have UnionPay enabled QR apps, can scan the Bank of Ceylon QR code at merchant outlets and pay for goods and services.

The first transaction of this partnership took place at Ministry of Crab, which was the first Sri Lankan merchant to obtain a UnionPay enabled EDC terminal provided by BOC.

The event was graced by, K. E. D. Sumanasiri Senior Deputy General Manager (Human Resource), Y. A. Jayathilaka Deputy General Manager (Product & Banking Development), Ms. KP Mallika AGM (Digital Products Promotion), Eranga Bandara AGM (Electronic Banking Centre), and HK Rajapakse AGM-IT (Delivery Channels), representing Bank of Ceylon.

Michelle Shao (General manager South Asia branch), Jerry Jiang (Business Head South Asia Branch), Melvin (Head of operations South Asia branch), Liu Xiaoyang (Yang) (Manager Operations South Asia branch), Crispin Wijesekera (Country Manager Sri Lanka and Maldives), Benzy Fernando (Head of Products and Business Development) and Arouf Samoon (Head of Branding and Marketing) representing UnionPay attended.

Dharshan Munidasa Director/Co- founder of Ministry of Crab was also present at the event.
