Albanian mobile provider provider ONE Telecommunications – previously known as Telekom Albania – has completed its EUR92 million (USD109.2 million) network modernisation programme.
The overhaul was carried out by Swedish vendor Ericsson and the cellco’s network now boasts a footprint spanning 98.5% of the population, peak download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps and improved indoor coverage.
The cellco notes that the upgrade was part of the US government’s ‘Clean Networks Initiative’, a drive to exclude China and Chinese companies from participation in digital spaces, which ONE describes as a commitment to ‘using control and computer equipment or data storage only from technologically secure companies.’ As such, ONE has been designated by the US State Department as a ‘Clean Company’.
