MPIC, MPIF, Huawei seal MoU for sustainability initiatives

Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), Metro Pacific Investments Foundation (MPIF) and Huawei Philippines signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a deed of donation to support various community impact programs under the auspices of Gabay Kalikasan.

Gabay Kalikasan has been adopted by MPIC as part of its sustainability initiatives.

The partnership is anchored on the shared goal of MPIC, MPIF and Huawei of protecting the environment with the help of cutting-edge technology solutions like the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and cloud computing to help mitigate illegal logging in protected watershed and forest areas, thereby helping to protect the ecosystem.

The ceremony was attended by Chaye Cabal-Revilla, MPIC chief finance officer and chief sustainability officer; Melody del Rosario, MPIF president; and Daniel Guo, Huawei Philippines vice president.

"With the environmental necessity for us to protect Mother Earth, Huawei's contribution will be of great help to the communities that we'll be putting this into," she added.

"We at MPIF feel an even stronger sense of responsibility and accountability to further improve our programs and serve a greater purpose," said del Rosario as she expressed her gratitude for the partnership.

Del Rosario added, "We are privileged to have a partner in Huawei Technologies, a company that is not only reliable but equally determined to achieve our goals for the present and for the future through Gabay Kalikasan."

Huawei shares the same sentiment and advocacies as MPIC and MPIF, especially in environmental protection and education.

"MPIC is known for its effective and long-term sustainability programs," said Guo. "Huawei Philippines would like to join MPIC's programs and be part of the great contributors to the Philippines. Huawei looks forward to having a continuing partnership with MPIC and MPIF. We hope we can do better for the Philippines, and we can learn better from Metro Pacific."

MPIF's strategic program is geared toward three fronts of social infrastructure: education, environment and economic empowerment.

Meanwhile, Huawei promotes the use of technology to support sustainability, so that no one gets left behind in the digital world. Huawei's strategy centers on digital inclusion, security and trustworthiness, environmental protection, and healthy and harmonious ecosystem, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

"I've always believed that sustainability is a collective responsibility. It is only through us working together that we will be able to achieve a pervasive impact to make a difference in the world," said Cabal-Revilla, speaking during the event as she emphasized the importance of collaboration in promoting sustainability and bringing about positive change in communities.
