The French regulator wants to know how new 5G networks will interfere with existing fixed satellite service earth stations.
The Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques, des postes (Arcep) is wanting responses to a public consultation by 29 October 2021.
The consultant covers metropolitan France, not France’s overseas territories, in frequency bands between 3.4GHz and 4.2GHz.
Arcep said: “The chief aim of this public consultation is to address any potentially harmful interference that 5G mobile networks – which are currently being deployed in the 3.4–3.8GHz band – are likely to cause for fixed satellite service earth stations operating in the 3.8–4.2GHz band.”
The regulator has already set limits on power levels for 5G operators in 3.4–3.8GHz band, but it recognises that “conditions … are likely to change over time”. New 5G services are spreading across the country.
Arcep added: “The purpose of this public consultation is to clarify the conditions that will allow for coexistence, as much in terms of the technical conditions required as their location and duration.”
