UPI and SLT-Mobitel aim to boost digital payment in Sri Lanka

Yet another initiative to increase the reach of the cashless society has been announced – this time in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan operator SLT-Mobitel’s mobile money platform, mCash, has partnered with payment services company UnionPay International (UPI) in order, as the partners put it, to enhance digital enablement in Sri Lanka.

The partnership will further enhance the usability of services of both mCash and UnionPay International by bringing cutting-edge technological advances to mCash customers and mCash retail merchants island-wide.

According to Sri Lankan news site nation.lk, it will also fuel the reach of UnionPay International’s services across the more than 25,000 mCash partner network by empowering members of the network with numerous benefits that will enhance their digital capabilities to serve customers.

Already the country’s leading mobile money platform, mCash aims to provide digital services by forging strategic partnerships, notably with leading corporates across various sectors, to offer fast, secure and efficient mobile financial services.

In fact the mCash platform facilitates a wide array of financial services such as deposits, withdrawals, sending and receiving money, utility and institute bill payments, shopping, QR payments, online payments, charitable donations, digital standing orders and B2B business solutions.

Partner company UPI provides cross-border payment services to the world’s largest cardholder base and ensures convenient local services to a growing number of global UnionPay cardholders and merchants.
