Ncell awaits 5G spectrum gor 5G trial

Ncell, the leading private telecom operator of Nepal, is ready to provide 5G service in Nepal. The CEO of Ncell, Mr. Andy Chong, informed in an event that Ncell is waiting for the frequency spectrum from Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) for a 5G trial.

According to Chong, Ncell is all set to launch the 5G service in Nepal. Ncell is now waiting for the 5G spectrum from the government to start the 5G trial across major cities.

Chong also raised his concern about 5G commercialization as, “The most important thing for 5G in Nepal is whether the market is ready for 5G service yet”. As per him, Ncell is performing a study to find out.

Ncell CEO also seeks support from the government in expanding mobile broadband to all parts of the country. He even pointed out the huge tax embodied on the telecom service to have a great impact on the Nepali telecom industry.

Nepal Telecom, the government-owned company, will be receiving the required frequency spectrum from NTA free of cost, as decided by the government. It means Nepal Telecom can use the provided spectrum to start the 5G trial for a year for free.

As known, Ncell has sent an application requesting for 5G spectrum, NTA hasn’t yet decided whether to provide it. Earlier Ncell participated in a spectrum auction for 900 and 2100 MHz frequency bands. NTA hasn’t been able to provide that spectrum nor they decide on the 5G spectrum to Ncell.
