Orange and Free given 30 days to comply with Senegal’s MNP rules

Senegalese regulator ARTP (L’Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications et des Postes) has issued formal notices to two of the country’s operators for failing to comply with mobile number portability (MNP) regulations.

Saga Africa Holdings and Sonatel, which respectively provide services under the Free and Orange brands, received the notices on 9th April and have been given 30 days to bring their operations in line, on pain of sanctions.

TeleGeography reports that an investigation into the activities of the two firms found evidence of misconduct, with both firms found to have unfairly rejected legitimate MNP claims and delayed claims without due cause. The investigation also alleged that Free had engaged in “fraudulent practices”.
