Orange Cameroon and NuRAN extend NAAS agreement

Orange Cameroon has extended its Network as a Service (NAAS) contract with NuRAN Wireless to add a further 120 sites to its footprint in the market.

CommsUpdate reports that the extension was an option to the original agreement signed by the parties in October 2020. After electing to exercise it, Orange will now deploy a total of 242 sites under the agreement, with each consisting of towers and equipment to be installed by NuRAN.

NuRAN’s technology is targeted towards rural communities in Cameroon, with the sites featuring a solar-powered carrier-grade GSM base station to enable a remote tower with a small footprint.

Francis Letourneau, CEO of NuRAN, said: “Our expanding relationship with Orange Cameroon…is yet another example of the growing interest of Tier 1 mobile network operators in NuRAN’s NAAS business model which we expect to resonate and expand on other continents. We are extremely pleased that Orange has moved so quickly to expand our project in Cameroon especially in advance of the initial deployments.”
