Aire Networks inks fiber tie-up with Onivia

Spanish regional operator Aire Networks has reached an agreement with wholesale provider Onivia to access its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) footprint, which passes around one million real estate units in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga and Seville. In total, Aire will gain access to 3,000km of FTTH infrastructure that it can commercialise, delivering 1Gbps transmission speeds to its clients.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, in November 2019 Macquarie Capital and Aberdeen Standard Investments signed an agreement with Grupo MASMOVIL to acquire a FTTH network passing around 940,000 building units in a deal worth EUR218.5 million (USD263.3 million). The network delivers coverage across five of Spain’s largest cities, namely: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga. The deal closed in early 2020 and in June 2020 the new owners launched commercial services under the Onivia brand name.

Alicante-based Aire Networks, which has been backed by Magnum Capital since 2018, currently presides over 27,000km of fibre, and provides wholesale services in rural and metropolitan areas.
