Salto, the streaming service backed by France’s leading broadcasters, has recorded 200,000 subscribers.
Launched by TF1, M6 and France Télévisions in October 2020, Salto was able to claim 100,000 subscriber after three weeks.
The subscriber number is thought to include both those currently enjoying a free week as part of their introductory offer and 14,000 free subscriptions issued to employees of the broadcasters.
By comparison Netflix was able to reach 100,000 in two weeks, when it launched in the French market in 2014, and 750,000 in one year.
The streaming market is of course very different seven years on.
Les Echos, which first reported the figures, says subscribers are spending two and a half hours a day on the platform.
The streaming service is expected to record a deficit of €93 million in 2021.
