Beeline completes Moscow LTE refarming

Russia’s Beeline has completed a process of redistributing the 2100MHz frequency range from 3G to 4G in Moscow to improve the quality and availability of mobile internet in the capital.

LTE-2100 network bandwidth in Moscow rose from 30MHz to 45MHz enabling a 30% increase in average mobile data speeds, while Beeline now claims peak speeds can reach up to 350Mbps using multiple frequency bands.

The project involved commissioning more than 2,300 new LTE-2100 base stations, alongside deployment of 800 new 3G base stations to maintain high quality voice communications.

Beeline’s 4G mobile traffic in Moscow grew by 61% year-on-year in December 2020, with 4G now accounting for 93% of the operator’s total mobile traffic. Beeline also reported that the average volume of 4G traffic per user increased by 36% y-o-y in December.
