HKT, Henderson Land Development Company Limited (Henderson Land) and Towngas Telecommunications Company Limited (TGT), a wholly owned subsidiary of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), jointly introduce 5G applications to six shopping malls owned and operated by Henderson Land, marking a significant step forward in the development of 5G smart malls.
HKT will implement TGT’s “5G Sharing System” across six malls under Henderson Land, namely Fanling Centre, Trend Plaza, Shatin Centre．Shatin Plaza, KOLOUR Tsuen Wan I and KOLOUR Yuen Long. The installation work in some of the malls is expected to be completed within this year.
In addition, HKT will provide smart restroom solutions at selected locations of Henderson Land’s MOSTown. Leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, sensors will automatically detect the occupancy of individual restroom cubicles. This information will be displayed in the MOSTown app and on different LED screens within the shopping mall by pairing the sensors with a smart queuing system, bringing convenience to customers and shortening their waiting time.
Henderson Land, TGT and HKT are exploring the feasibility of deploying smart restroom solutions and other 5G-powered applications such as AR, VR and robotics in more locations among Henderson Land’s portfolio of shopping malls. The adoption of innovative technologies is expected not only to increase customer satisfaction but also extend their stay in the malls.
