Mobitel extends rural connectivity in Sri Lanka

Fulfilling its role as the National Telecommunication Service Provider, the SLT group established connectivity at Meeyagala, a remote village located in Uva.

Following the request from the Venerable Kahawe Maithree Nayaka Thera from Meeyagala, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, SLT and Mobitel visited the location and observed that there was no connectivity and people in the village were facing a lot of difficulties in connecting with their loved ones.

On a directive of Oshada Senanayake, Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, SLT Mobitel established connectivity within a week by putting up a repeater solution and plans were initiated to provide high-quality voice services and high-speed 4G broadband services for the area within 3 weeks.

The ceremonial opening of the site was graced by Oshada Senanayake, Senior representatives from both SLT and Mobitel along with Government Officials. Further, SLT & Mobitel handed over computers and other necessary equipment to help support the educational activities of children in the Meeyagala area.

Commenting on the initiative, Lalith Seneviratne, Group CEO of SLT and Mobitel said, “As the nation’s telecommunication provider, we are privileged to fulfill TRCSL’s request in providing extended coverage to all Sri Lankans. I would like to thank the Director General of TRCSL, Oshada Senanayake for his tireless efforts towards creating digital inclusivity for the current and future generations.”
