Russia’s second largest fixed broadband operator ER-Telecom (Dom.ru) has begun offering 500Mbps fiber internet speeds for residential customers, up from its previous limit of 300Mbps, while it plans to implement 1Gbps commercial network upgrades by May 2021, reports ComNews quoting company executive Vasily Sereda.
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that in December 2019 ER-Telecom launched a major project to upgrade 60% of its optical network to 1Gbps access standard in 2020-2022, while aiming to complete the gigabit rollout across its entire fibre internet footprint in 2026 under a total seven-year investment of RUB7.6 billion (USD101 million). The latest reports indicate that the operator may be bringing the implementation timeline forward.
