Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has ratified the agreement that converts the BRL 16.5 million in fines imposed on Telefonica/Vivo into obligations to expand the telecommunications infrastructure in the country.
According to the ruling, published in the Official Gazette, Vivo has to build a high capacity fiber optic backhaul and maintain it for at least three years, until the seats of the municipalities are not served by the service. Telefonica/Vivo has a 60-day period to declare it will comply with the obligation and present the list of municipalities that will be served by the backhaul.
