Walmart launching Mexican MVNO

Supermarket chain Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica is now offering MVNO services in Mexico, branded as BAIT (Bodega Aurrera Internet y Telefonia).

The company is the Latin American unit of the US chain Walmart. The new MVNO will be delivered via Red Compartida’s open access wholesale network.

Using BAIT, subscribers will have the option of paying MXN50 (USD2.22) weekly or MXN200 monthly for unlimited internet access. With the MVNO launching this month, customers who sign up with a MXN20 SIM card for the rest of June and July will be able to access the network free of charge for one month.

Beatriz Nunez, VP of Growth at Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica, said: “Given the current situation, and the ‘new normal’ that we are experiencing, being connected is essential, and doing it at the lowest prices allows us to fulfil our vision of [helping] Mexican families to live better.”
