MoTC confirms allocation of 26GHz spectrum licences

Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (Liikenne-ja viestintaministerio, MoTC) has confirmed the issuance of 26GHz spectrum licences to those companies that successfully bid for frequencies earlier this month. In a press release regarding the development, the regulator said that Elisa Corporation, Telia Finland and DNA have all now been handed their new concessions and frequencies – useable for the construction of 5G networks from 1 July 2020. The operators’ licences are valid until 31 December 2033.

Commenting, Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka said: ‘The number of Finland’s 5G networks is growing rapidly and now more frequencies will be taken into use. Thanks to 5G, data flows faster, network connection delays are reduced and new digital services can be developed in Finland.’

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Telia, Elisa and DNA each secured an 800MHz block of 26GHz spectrum for EUR7 million (USD7.9 million) in an auction which closed on 8 June.
