Egypt's Public Enterprise Ministry starts third phase of digital transformation

The Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector has started the third phase of a digital transformation project at its companies, focusing on developing infrastructure, cloud computing, and a data hosting centre.

A Fiber Misr–Vodafone alliance has been chosen to implement the project, with Fiber Misr undertaking the technical support and Vodafone managing and hosting the system at its data centre. This will take place through a secure and closed electronic cloud for the private sector based in 6th of October City.

Dell EMC will be the main partner providing technology for the Vodafone data centre, after winning a tender for which major international full-service and technology companies also made bids.

The services will provide improved performance of business sector companies and a speedy completion of tasks. In addition, 24-hour technical support will be provided for all corporate resource planning and management applications at the lowest possible cost.

The Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector’s digital transformation plan is set to last over 18 months. It includes four main aspects, including the preparation of digital policies and procedures serving the public business sector, which was completed in early November 2019. It will also choose information technology companies and service integrators to implement these policies through enterprise resource planning (ERP) programmes, which has already brought on the likes of SAB and Microsoft, alongside Fiber Misr, Nile Valley, and Atos.
