Operation to extend FTTH network, in Algiers, launched

Minister of Post and Telecommunications Brahim Boumzar launched, evening, a pilot operation to extend FTTH (fiber to the home) network in the province of Algiers with a view to ensuring a stable and quality internet speed.

"The project aims to update the TDM network in the province of Algiers, which is aging and obsolete," Boumzar told APS.

This is a pilot operation that consists of replacing the copper wire network with FTTH network, thus guaranteeing a real throughput of up to 100 Mega, he added.

Accompanied by Director General of Algérie Telecom, Mounir Djouaher, Boumzar said that the current telephone and internet network in Algiers is still using copper, a means of transport "which cannot guarantee a stable internet speed."

"We have acquired new OLT (Optical Line Terminal) equipment enabling us to connect thousands of subscribers to the FTTH network," he said, considering FTTH to be one of the most efficient technologies for fixed Internet access.

"More than 320,000 households in the province of Algiers will benefit from the FTTH fiber-optic network," concluded Boumzar.
