Mozambique fixed line and mobile services provider Mocambique Telecom (TMcel) has finally begun trials of its 4G LTE network, which was originally due to be launched last year.
A report from A Verdade says independent tests in Maputo achieved download speeds of around 11Mbps, which it claims is a higher rate than those experienced over the networks of rival operators Vodacom and Movitel. TMcel is coming to the market late, however, with Vodacom having switched on 4G services in September 2018 and Movitel joining it last July. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Mozambique was home to over 15 million cellular subscribers at the end of 2019.
