Asiacell provides free internet access to students for online classes

With the continued closure of the Kurdistan Region's schools and lessons shifting online, telecommunications company Asiacell said that it will provide a free internet package to help primary and secondary school students complete the academic year.

“Learners can have access to Asiacell free internet through this package. The purpose of this package is only to enter the special platform for online classes without any password in order to complete this year of classes during the unusual situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak,” Asiacell said in a statement.

“To get access to this package, learners should send '1' in a free SMS to 3110,” the statement instructed, adding that this package went live on April 26.

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Education Alan Hama Saeed said that “we appreciate Asiacell's initiative” to support the ministry's efforts.

On April 23, the ministry announced the launch of the platform, which provides lessons in multiple languages for primary and secondary school students.
