Indonesian mobile network operator (MNO) Telkomsel has expanded its 4G LTE coverage to more than 95% of the population, having deployed 87,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) on its network to support a wide range of broadband and digital-based services.
Overall, the MNO – which is 65%-owned by Telkom Indonesia – has 219,000 BTS on-air, and notes that ahead of Ramadan 2020 it has readied 11,000 4G base stations, deployed an additional 69 Compact Mobile BTS (dubbed COMBAT), and increased internet gateway capacity to 6.1Tbps to ensure smooth data access throughout the country for the duration of the religious festival.
